May 2018 - Happy Mother's Day

MOTHER, YOU ARE A BLESSING!

”Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her.”
--- (Proverbs 31:28, NKJV)

On this special day, we celebrate our mothers! Yes, you deserve all the accolades, candies, roses, diamond rings, Louis Vuitton bags, special meals, hugs and kisses in all the world today!  We all want to say, “Thank you for your sacrifice(s)!”

When it comes to motherhood, this sign on a church bulletin board says it all: “If evolution is true, how come mothers still only have two hands?” Seriously though, Mothers, we stop to salute you and let you know how much we appreciate you today. Some days you probably wonder if what you’re doing even matters. Your work is never done, you’re always exhausted and there is no big financial reward, neither is your role defined by a paycheck or a promotion.  We live in an age that seems to diminish service and exalt glitz. Sometimes, it’s hard to value your investment.

But hear this: God says you’re highly esteemed by Him, and that children are some of His most precious gifts (Psalms 127:3). Eugene Peterson paraphrases Solomon’s words in the Message by describing a mother as someone who “senses the worth of her work, [she’s] diligent in homemaking, faces tomorrow with a smile, has something worthwhile to say, and always says it kindly. Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise” (Proverbs 31:18-19 TM). Then Peterson finishes the chapter with these words: “Many women have done wonderful things, but you’ve outclassed them all!

A little boy forgot his lines in the Sunday School play, so his mother leaned over and whispered, “I am the light of the world.” The child beamed, then with great feeling announced, “My mother is the light of the world.”  We smile, but the truth is, mothers write on the hearts of their children what the hand of time cannot erase.  E.W. Caswell said,” It’s only in [later] life that men gaze backward and behold how a mother’s hand and heart shaped their destiny.” Chuck Swindoll adds: “If you were blessed with a good mother, you reap the benefits the rest of your life. If your mother neglected your needs, much of what you suffered cannot be erased.  For good or ill, a mother’s mark is permanent.” So, Mothers, please continue to leave a good mark on the lives of your children! You’ll have to give account to the One Who gave them to you as a reward.

The peace of Jehovah will be your portion, others will not reap your harvest.  Your children will grow to know God, serve God, be mighty vessels in the hand of God and they shall impact their world in Jesus’ Name! Happy Mother’s Day!
